Vintage SPUTNIK Weather Station West Germany Thermometer Barometer Hygrometer. Spacey looking Weather Station, measures 8-1/4" high with a 5-1/2" diameter.
The base is 4 across. There are air holes on the top and the bottom. Running around the center of the Sphere is a Brass trim piece. There are 4 small screws that can be taken out to separate the Sphere into 2 pieces. There Sphere rotates easily as it should.
Inside are a Temperature Dial and Hygrometer Dial. On the bottom of the Sphere is the Barometer, with Very Dry, Stormy and Change on the Dial with a Needle that points to the present conditions. On the bottom of the Sphere, you can turn the Barometer to where you want it.
I blew into the holes and both the Temp and Hygrometer gauges went up. The Barometer I don't know much about. The Sphere sits on a Black and Brass Base.
On the underside of the base is green felt to protect surfaces. It has the Model # 6684 and Made in Western-Germany. Has a mounting hole for putting the Station on a Wall.
There is dust inside - mostly towards the bottom. It could be cleaned by removing the 4 screws mentioned before. The Plexiglass is crystal clear with no scratches.
The Brass is in Excellent condition, and a very pretty hue. A really nice piece of Mid-Century Modern from the Atomic Era. Great addition to a Collection from that Era. One of the nicer ones you are going to find. Please study the photos as they are an important part of each description.
